A Golden Moment

/Miscellaneous Writings/By Paula Judith Johnson

I remember the last time Maizie played in the water. We were in the dog park at Ehrenberg AZ. Maizie had been playing with an 8-month-old boxer puppy and they were both pretty exhausted. Just as the boxer’s owner and I were getting leashs ready to hook up our dogs, the sprinklers came on.

OMG! It was as if someone put new batteries in worn out toy dogs. Those dogs jumped up and started running around, body slamming each other, and snapping at the water. At one point, they both laid down and tried to eat the water coming out of the sprinklers. Then, up they jumped and started wrestling. There was no hope of leashing them.

It took 10 minutes to round them up—after which we were soaked! People strolling passed laughed and hooted.

All in all, the dogs had fun, people enjoyed the show, and I couldn’t help but laugh along with everyone else to see my fun-loving Golden Retriever play to her hearts content.
